The Alhambra, Granada
The Alhambra is a palace and fortress complex located in Granada, Andalusia, Spain. It is one of the most famous monuments of Islamic architecture and one of the best-preserved palaces of the historic Islamic world, in addition to containing notable examples of Spanish Renaissance architecture.
´The Alhambra is Granada’s – and Europe’s – love letter to Moorish culture. Set against the brooding Sierra Nevada peaks, this fortified palace started life as a walled citadel before becoming the opulent seat of Granada’s Nasrid emirs. Their showpiece palaces, the 14th-century Palacios Nazaríes, are among the finest Islamic buildings in Europe and, together with the Generalife gardens, form the Alhambra's great headline act.´ Lonely Planet.

In this painting, the Alhambra is seen from the famous Albaicin quarter viewpoint. Following a recent trip to Granada, and armed with a series of drawings and photographs taken at the site, Kirsty returned to the art studio to complete the final oil painting, taking inspiration from Sorolla and Hockney. This beautiful depiction of the Alhambra is full of heavily textured brush strokes and painterly marks. A beautifully atmospheric painting to add to a collection.
